It’s been a week since my last post. Sorry, I’ve been recuperating from my week at Reading. So I thought this appropriate as I feel like I need a bit of a detox, Autumn/Winter is also nearing, and I need to get back in shape.
Here is some inspiration to help you de-stress, relax and detox.
Drink hot water with a slice of lemon in every morning, it apparently kick starts your metabolism. Don’t forget to drink lots of water and Green tea also has lots of antioxidants in it and comes in lots of flavours. I once remember sitting in Dim t (An oriental restaurant in London Bridge) drinking jasmine flower tea and I felt so
relaxed. I now have a Japanese cast iron tea-pot (originally known as tetsubin) at home and a collection of teas including gunpowder tea, which is green tea with a smokey after taste and Scented jasmine flowers which open up when you put them into hot water. Hungry? Snack on a handful of mixed fruit and nuts, or something rich in anti-oxidants like blueberries.
Introduce rose-water into your daily skin routine as a face spritzer to refresh yourself or as a toner. Rose water soothes the skin and helps to calm down any redness. You can buy it from health shops and some beauty shops, however try to buy pure rose-water as you then know it has no harmful chemicals in, or even make your own. Here is how to DIY http://blog.freepeople.com/2013/03/diy-rose-water/
Don’t wash your hair everyday, if it gets greasy quickly use dry shampoo and tie your hair up. Also let your hair dry naturally every once in a while (I never use a hairdryer unless I’m going out or want to style it). This helps your hair produce split ends less often. I love the natural wavy look! Also rinse your hair in beer and leave it on for 2 minutes, once or twice a month. The proteins and vitamins in the beer help to develop healthy hair, and also adds shine.
Take 10-20 minutes a day to just relax and reflect on your thoughts. Check out Headspace: www.getsomeheadspace.com/ It’s an app with relaxing meditation techniques. You get a free 10 day trial, after that it’s from £3.74 a month depending on how long you want to sign up for it. I just use the 10 day trial and I find it helps relax after a stressful day at work, or an activity like Yoga (Which also increases flexibility), sitting down with a cup of tea listening to music or a walk In the countryside. (which leads onto my next point…)
Get some exercise! Let’s face it, we all lead very busy lives but a 30 minute swim or jog three times a week will do before or after work, it will re-energize you. (This is something I definitely need to do more of!)
Make sure where you sleep is a peaceful environment so it’s easier to get to sleep and get at least 8 hours a night, there’s nothing worse than feeling tired at work, or on a night out, because you had 5 hours sleep the night before.
Get some sunlight. Sunlight gives you vitamin D, which is important for bone growth and also helps your hair and nails grow quicker!
When the suns out, sit outside on your lunch break, or on your day off go for a walk along the beach. (Don’t forget to protect yourself with suncream!)
The simplest things in life are the best!
